BOLT is a unique offering - it has an existing mobile video model that has a significant user base, an ecosystem of telco and content partners, and a vision to develop a community of engaged users consuming curated, truthful, and compelling content.

Launching in 2019, the BOLT token will be designed to bridge the gaps that exist amongst digital services, access to users in emerging markets, and host a new generation of decentralised services for the next 6 billion people in emerging markets. The BOLT token is also envisaged as a medium for producers of content and services to be able to monetise their efforts, without the need for distributors and middlemen.

BOLT is backed by a proven team of professionals of venture builders, agile technology developers, and digital strategists with a solid understanding of monetising emerging markets in the mobile content industry .

Problem

  1. No Bank Account, No Credit Cards.
    Many users in emerging markets (3B people globally) are underbanked (no credit card, minimal use of bank account).
  2. High Commissions charged by Payment Gateways / Middlemen.
    The most convenient / scalable solution for access was utilising payment gateways (e.g. provided by telcos) where telcos will receive a 30% commission from digital service provider.
  3. Minimum charge per user transaction is not pegged for the masses.
    Through 3rd party providers (e.g. Google Pay, Fortumo), the minimum charge per transaction can range from USD 1 and upwards. In markets where average salaries are less than USD 10/week, this limits access to the undersereved.
  4. Payment Gateways are Local in Nature, not for Global Scalability.
    Integrating such gateways often requires significant tech and implementation investment (per telco, per 3rd party partner, per market, which brings up to almost 4-5 options per country). This limits global deployment and rapid scalability for any solution provider.
  5. User Pays Instantly, Business Collects Revenue 120 days later. Credit terms from middlemen (payment gateways) can range from 120-150 days after user pays for access - limiting cash flow / liquidity for digital service providers.
  6. Allowing More Content / Service Developers to Monetise.
    Thousands of creative content producers have trouble monetising their content and to be able to operate in an independent and sustainable manner.

Solution

An opportunity to decentralise: Currently, 30-40% of revenue that goes through telco providers are lost as an entrance fee for BOLT to bill customers through a telco payment gateway. Furthermore, telcos require a minimum price point of USD 0.10 to process payments, which exposes a market gap where users are not able to access BOLT due to insufficient mobile credit balance.

Business/Liquidity efficiency: Partners get compensated instantly by tokens they accumulate through user transactions within the BOLT ecosystem, instead of awaiting for 120-day payment terms from payment gateways.

Increase utility value of BOLT Tokens vs fiat micro-transactions: We would further encourage users to use BOLT by applying discounts for users who use the BOLT Token to purchase services, instead of using fiat payments.

Increasing Adoption: We are in the process of working with Community leaders and advocates to act as a distribution channel for BOLT Tokens to the great community to allow for adoption of the BOLT service. Community leaders and advocates will also initiate activities involving the BOLT Community to drive awareness and engagement. 

Bundling BOLT Tokens with telco data bundles: To increase our user base amongst the masses (i.e. anyone purchasing a data plan), BOLT would also be working on bundling deals with telcos, to encourage Bolt Token usage across the service.
